CAMP COURAGEOUS...
For the past 15 years, Hospice of Miami County, Inc. has hosted Camp Courageous, a camp designed to meet the needs of grieving children. In 2010, we are pleased to be able to expand this camp from 4 days to 5. (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday). Camp Courageous is intended for children entering grades kindergarten through 6th grade in the fall who have experienced the death of a loved one. Campers are selected from the greater Miami County area. There is no charge for the camp and there need not have been a Hospice of Miami County connection prior to the death.
Camp Courageous offers a unique blend of fun camp activities and age specific projects developed to help campers explore their feelings and emotions while regaining inner strength. Here, the campers have the opportunity to meet others their own age who have also experienced the death of a loved one. They discover that others have these same feelings, and it’s okay.
Activities Include:
- Workbooks
- Music
- Guest Speakers
- Group Games
- Grief Education and Bereavement Support
- Arts and Crafts
- Swimming
- Snacks and lunches are provided
Since we cannot protect children from experiencing death in their lives, it is important that we educate and help them understand it. This program is designed to be a special journey of growth as we try to help each child find answers to their questions.
New in 2010! Teen Trek
Because of the growing popularity of Camp Courageous and a recognition that a separate teen camp would be beneficial, the Hospice of Miami County's Generations of Life Community Bereavement Center has developed TEEN TREK 2010, a camp for grieving teens (entering grades 7-12 in the fall). This 3-day, 2-night camp will offer the following activities:
Campfire ~ Low Challenge Course ~ Grief Education and Bereavement Support
Arts and Crafts ~ Games ~ Snacks and meals are provided
July 2, 2010 is the deadline to register for Camp Courageous and Teen Trek 2010. Please complete a Registration form AND a Medical information form for each camper that you wish to register. Forms are available from our website -- please note that the forms are different for each camp, so make sure you print the correct ones!
